Whether your out on the town or on your way into the office, under garments are the defining piece of any ensemble. They can be the difference between you looking like a brick house VERSES a gelatin mold. The difference between you looking slayed and NOT like you got dressed in a dark room or the shade. So for my first official blog I want to take my loyal subscribers through the ins and outs of plus size under garments. So Lets just dive right in!

The looser the dress, pants, or skirt, romper, etc. the sturdier the undergarment needs to be. If its anything I've learned in my years as a fashionista its that more space gives more room for the not so friendly giggle, and that irritating static cling. All of those flowing maxi dress and parachute psychedelic multi-color looks that are so popular when the weather breaks, although very breeze friendly, (especially for us ladies with, a little more booty and belly) are not always friendly to the eye.......unless the shake rattle and roll look is what you are going for, then in that case, DO YOUR THANG! However, for the ladies who are looking for a bit more solidarity between there body parts, I recommend one of the following; spanks, control top panties, a bodysuit, an extreme support undetectable cincher (thong, panty or shorts cut), or leggings. All made with thick foundation. The great aspect of more material is that having on a thick foundation is not as easily detectable as with more fitted clothes.

Everyone loves spanks! Whether you have a little after baby muffin top of a whole dozen donuts......spanks are a must. Even better they now make seamless spanks for even clingier clothing. I recommend doubling up the spanks with loose fitting dresses. Throw a random color pair on first then solid black on top. Not only will this give you added support, it will give you better body definition AND a dimple free tush. If your wearing thicker materials control top panties will give you the same look, the problem is the seams. With thinner and more fitted material try to remain seamless.

A bodysuit is perfect for a looser look also. Bodysuits eliminate the appearance of a bulky tank top and cover you from shoulder to bottom and at times even the thighs depending on the cut. I personally am still in the market for a strapless bodysuit with a built in bra if anyone knows about a good brand.

If your headed out for a night on the town, and wearing a flowing short or long gown, an extreme support undetectable cincher is your best-friend. Cincher is a word created to better name the modern day girdle. Cinchers typically are very thick material, solid in structure and will give your silhouette a brick house like appearance ladies! The downfall to cinchers is you have about a good 4 hours in a good cincher before you began to get uncomfortable, especially if your dining out. However, beauty takes a little sacrifice, and if you can stand in some of those 6 inch+ heels I see you all in, I KNOW you can wear a cincher. Also the good ones can be a little pricey. A good cincher can range anywhere between 75.00 and 150.00 depending on the size and whether it is closed solely using bra links or if it also has a zipper layer for even more amazing support. Another plus is that cinchers typicially come with a pica boo hem, so no need to get completely undress to go to the ladies room, and feel free to cut the slit open a little more if needed...lol! I highly recommend you do not buy a cincher that you can not be fit for in the store. To all my Chicago subscribers, I'm going to add the link for Pretty Girl Wasted below. This is the cincher consultant I use. She is friendly, professional, and will size you to perfection without the added pressure of having to buy. Finally, if all else fails, a good ole pair of leggings (the ones with no waste band) that are long enough to reach your bra in order to tuck them under it will work. This trick is for those who may not have access to the items listed above. The downside it that leggings will stay up 2 hours max before they begin to slide. I remember as a college band performer, I didn't have access to waste cinchers or body suits, so I got creative and purchased a nice black bra, a pair of reasonably priced leggings and hand stitched....that's right HAND STITCHED them together! That contraption lasted me through 3 years of performing! That is my word.

On that note I am going to stop here. I hope you found The Skinny On Plus Size Undergarments Pt.1 witty, insightful and helpful. Watch out for pt. 2 where we discuss undergarments for more form fitting attire. Ill also put a complete list of great undergarment sources there including Pretty Girl Wasted. Happy Valentines Day!!

Till then Smooches From Koko!!
